Being that I'm posting on a Sunday this piece is f Being that I'm posting on a Sunday this piece is from my 'Whey yuh from' 2021 collection. It is a visual representation of a Sunday in my head. Best childhood memories were Sunday afternoon strolls with my family around the QPS. Us sitting on the park benches drinking coconut water or eating pholourie. We also used to love feeding the fish in the ponds. I feel like every Trinidadian has some fond memory of the savannah. Even more so these particular park benches. Lol. What I like about this piece in particular is the visual pun, it's a piece paying homage to the queen's park savannah and the iconic black railings that surrounds the savannah are used here to surround the head, like a crown .... As you all know this year I will not be having an As you all know this year I will not be having an exhibition as I have some personal life events happening. so I've decided to repost some pieces and talk a little bit about them and my process. This piece, Family line was by farrrrr the most technical piece I've done thus far... This piece was part of my 2022 collection Viaticum the pieces were all Memento mori. It is a composite piece made with ceramic, string and metal. The hardest part was figuring out the weight distribution and getting the piece to balance properly. This piece to me speaks about heritage and our unseen ties to our ancestors and how their lives impact us and furthermore how our lives will impact the lives of our children and children's children. In the piece it's the mother crocheting (making) her child with the same string she herself was made from. It signifies a passing on of knowledge, wisdom, culture, rituals etc. And the closer she is to completing her creation, the closer she herself is to becoming no more. This can also be seen with the finish of the piece. The piece was done with bronze paint and the bronze finish of the mother was aged using a patina whereas the child's face is not, again, to convey dying and new life. The cycle will continue as the child grows old and decides to create a child of her own.
